A sailor points to the horizon. Two boys listen. This is the moment Sir Walter Raleigh fell in love with the sea — painted by Millais in 1871, printed and framed in 1932, sent from a Bristol tobacco company to a Sussex pub. Three layers of history in one frame.

OBJECT DETAILS: An ideal piece for collectors of Victorian Pre-Raphaelite prints, British pub memorabilia, or for film and TV prop buyers seeking period-accurate 1930s British interior set dressing. Framed chromolithograph reproduction of Sir John Everett Millais' The Boyhood of Raleigh (1871), in gilt wood frame with white mount. Original label to reverse documents provenance: presented by W.D & H.O Wills (Dept 17), Bristol, to Mr C. Calloway, The Jolly Sportsman, East Chiltington, Sussex, February 1932. England, 1932.

DIMENSIONS: Frame: H 43cm × W 55cm (H 16.9" × W 21.7")

CONDITION: In good vintage condition with natural wear consistent with age. Minor surface wear to frame. Print intact. Original label to reverse intact. Photographs form part of this description — please review all images carefully.

CURATOR'S NOTE: Millais painted this in 1871. It became one of the most reproduced Victorian images in Britain — in schoolbooks, on walls, above pub fireplaces. This copy went to one specific pub, to one specific landlord, in February 1932. That detail makes it unrepeatable.
