A slender column of hand-worked needlepoint flowers cascades between ornate brass fittings — the kind of piece that brings quiet, considered character to a hallway, drawing room, or dressing room wall.
OBJECT DETAILS: An ideal piece for interior designers sourcing characterful mid-century European textiles, or for film and TV prop buyers seeking period-accurate domestic interiors from the 1950s–60s.
A West German glockenspiel bell pull, comprising a full-length needlepoint panel depicting a repeating floral bouquet — roses, lilies, and forget-me-nots worked in warm rose, amber, violet, and sage green on a neutral ground — framed by a border of amber-gold velvet ribbon and finished with a fine braided metallic trim. The panel is mounted on two cast brass ornamental fittings: an upper bracket featuring scrolling Rococo-style relief with a small suspended bell, and a lower weighted ring. The needlepoint itself is finely worked petit point throughout.
Origin: West Germany. Circa 1950s–1960s.
DIMENSIONS: H 120cm × W 26cm (H 47.2" × W 10.2") Full hanging length including brass fittings: approximately 120cm.
CONDITION: In good vintage condition, consistent with age and use. A small number of loose stitches are present in the needlepoint panel — these are minor and not visible from a normal viewing distance. The brass fittings show light age patina. The velvet border retains good colour. No tears, no staining, no structural damage. Bell and lower ring present and intact.
Photographs form part of this description. Please review all images carefully as they document the piece's condition in full detail.
CURATOR'S NOTE: Selected for the quality of its needlework and the completeness of its original brass hardware — bell pulls of this type are increasingly rare to find intact. A natural fit for a traditionally furnished interior, a dressing room, or as a decorative counterpoint in an eclectic setting.
