Cool, quiet and deeply considered — this celadon-glazed berry bowl and its organically shaped plate carry the unmistakable hand of Joanna Howells, one of Britain's most respected studio potters, in a form that is as much sculpture as it is tableware.

OBJECT DETAILS An ideal piece for collectors of contemporary British studio ceramics, for interior designers sourcing functional art objects of genuine provenance, or as an exceptional and unusual gift. This is a berry bowl / fruit strainer and matching plate in translucent celadon-glazed porcelain, made by Welsh studio potter Joanna Howells (born 1960). The bowl features a gently undulating organic rim, a swirling relief pattern to the interior, and a series of small pierced drainage holes around the lower body — designed for washing and draining fresh berries or cherries directly at the table. The matching plate echoes the bowl's organic form with the same flowing swirl relief and irregular, hand-altered edge. Both pieces are covered in Howells' characteristic pale celadon glaze — cool, luminous and translucent. Impressed JH maker's mark present on the base of the plate. Style: contemporary British studio ceramics. Material: porcelain, celadon glaze. Era: circa 2000s. Origin: Wales, UK. Maker: Joanna Howells.

DIMENSIONS Bowl: Diameter 15cm × H 9cm (Diameter 5.9" × H 3.5") Plate: Diameter 20cm (Diameter 7.9") Sold as a set.

CONDITION REPORT In excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Celadon glaze pristine on both pieces. Pierced drainage holes intact and clean. Impressed JH mark clearly visible on base. Both pieces retain their original luminosity and quality. Photographs form part of this description. Please review all images carefully as they document the piece's condition in full detail.

CURATOR'S NOTE Joanna Howells' work appears regularly at auction — her celadon porcelain is collected seriously and held in museum collections. This berry bowl set represents her practice at its most refined: functional, beautiful, and quietly extraordinary. The combination of the pierced bowl with its perfectly matched organic plate is a complete, considered object — the kind of piece that makes washing strawberries feel like a ceremony.
