OBJECT DETAILS
An ideal set for interior designers seeking a sculptural Art Deco centrepiece, or for film and TV prop buyers requiring period-accurate 1930s English domestic styling. Equally sought after by dedicated glass collectors.
A matched bowl and vase in George Davidson & Co.'s celebrated Cloud Glass, produced at their Gateshead, England glassworks circa 1930s. Cloud Glass was first introduced by Davidson's in 1923 and became one of the most distinctive Art Deco glass techniques in British production — created by applying trails of dark glass to a pale amber base before mould-pressing, producing a swirling tortoiseshell pattern unique to each individual piece. The amber colourway is the original and most classic of the Cloud Glass range. Both pieces display the characteristic polished exterior and matte interior finish. Sold as a matched set.

CONDITION Both pieces in very good vintage condition, consistent with age and use. No chips, no cracks, no repairs, no restoration. Trapped air bubbles are present in both pieces — these are inherent manufacturing characteristics of the Cloud Glass pressing technique and not defects. The vase displays a subtle internal haziness at the rim, consistent with the production process of this glass type and visible in photographs. Neither feature impacts the beauty or integrity of the pieces. Photographs form part of this description. Please review all images carefully as they document the pieces' condition in full detail.
CURATOR'S NOTE Selected because no two Cloud Glass pieces are identical — the swirling amber and dark brown of this set has the quality of something found in nature rather than made in a factory. A set that earns its place on a sideboard, a dining table, or a film set in equal measure.
