There is an austere elegance to this small figure — Athena stands in profile, spear raised, her aegis shield bearing the sacred owl of wisdom, the whole form cast in solid dark bronze with the quiet gravity of ancient precedent. A piece that carries mythology in its weight.
OBJECT DETAILS:
An ideal piece for collectors of classical Greek metalwork, interior designers seeking a sculptural accent with mythological resonance, or film and TV prop buyers requiring period Mediterranean or classical set dressing.
A solid cast bronze figure of Athena Pallas (Minerva), the Greek goddess of wisdom and strategic warfare, in her traditional warrior aspect. The figure is rendered in the flat-profile casting tradition characteristic of Greek workshop production, depicting Athena in full battle dress — crested helmet, spear raised in the right hand, and the circular aegis shield at her left. The shield bears a central owl in relief — the sacred bird of Athena, symbol of wisdom and the emblem of ancient Athens itself — surrounded by the meander (Greek key) pattern, an ancient symbol of eternity and infinity. The same meander motif decorates the columnar base. The surface carries a deep, even dark bronze patina consistent with age, distinguishing this from later production pieces with verdigris or green patina finishes.
No maker's mark or country stamp present — consistent with earlier Greek workshop production, before export labelling became standard practice.

CURATOR'S NOTE: Selected for the economy and confidence of its casting — this is not a decorative trinket but a serious small sculpture with genuine age and patina behind it. The owl on her shield rather than the more common Medusa makes this a particularly fine variant. Athena has been watching over homes for three thousand years; she can manage yours too.
