Theatrical, bejewelled, and utterly unapologetic — this tilting vanity mirror on a scrollwork stand is a piece that transforms a dressing table into a statement. Black enamel, golden rhinestones, and warm bronze in perfect excess.
OBJECT DETAILS An ideal piece for interior designers sourcing bold Hollywood Regency or Orientalist decorative objects, or for film and TV prop buyers seeking richly detailed period dressing table props.
A brass and bronze alloy tilting oval vanity mirror on a pedestal stand, the oval frame densely set with black enamel rocaille scrollwork and encrusted throughout with faceted rhinestones in golden yellow, amber and clear. The twisted wire upright rises from a domed circular base, itself decorated with black enamel scallop pattern and rhinestone border, with a finely engraved brass collar at centre. Felt pad to the underside of the base for surface protection. The mirror tilts freely on its axis. Indian, in the tradition of highly decorative brass and enamel vanity objects produced for the export and collector market, circa 1960s. Maker unknown.
DIMENSIONS H 31cm × W 18cm (H 12.2" × W 7.1")
CONDITION REPORT In very good vintage condition, consistent with age and use. Warm bronze and brass patina throughout. A small number of individual rhinestones absent from the frame — minor and difficult to notice against the density of the overall setting. Enamel intact. Mirror glass clear and in well condition, with no silvering loss or distortion. Tilting mechanism functions smoothly. Felt pad to base intact. Photographs form part of this description. Please review all images carefully as they document the piece's condition in full detail.
CURATOR'S NOTE Selected for its sheer decorative ambition and the quality of its metalwork. A piece that belongs on a dressing table or in a collector's cabinet — equally at home in a maximalist interior or as a singular punctuation mark in a more restrained space.
