A fireside relic with the presence of sculpture — this pierced brass roaster once caught the glow of open flame, its twisted stem rising like a question mark above the hearth.
OBJECT DETAILS
An ideal piece for collectors of English fireside antiques and period interiors, or for film and TV prop buyers seeking authentic Victorian/Edwardian hearth dressing. This is a brass chestnut roaster — a hand-pierced circular pan on a tall, elaborately twisted openwork handle, terminating in a suspension ring for wall display. The pierced disc is worked in a radiating star and diamond motif, allowing heat and smoke through during use over an open fire. Stamped "Made in England" to the handle, consistent with early-to-mid 20th century English brass work in a Victorian revival style. Displayed here on a fitted wooden stand.
Key features: hand-pierced star and lattice pattern to the roasting disc, ornate scrollwork stem with twisted brass elements, suspension ring, natural age patina throughout, includes display stand.
DIMENSIONS
H 58cm × W 15cm (approx., pan diameter) (H 22.8" × W 5.9")
CONDITION REPORT
In good vintage condition, consistent with age and use. Natural patina throughout the brass surface — warm, uneven tarnish typical of a genuine period piece rather than a reproduced finish. Light surface marks and oxidation to the reverse of the pan. No cracks, no repairs, no structural damage — stem and hinge joints are sound. Photographs form part of this description; please review all images carefully as they document the piece's condition in full detail. Display stand included but not original to the piece.
CURATOR'S NOTE
Selected for its sculptural silhouette as much as its history — this is an object that reads as art long before it reads as tool. A quiet study in Autumn character: brass, fire, and the patience of an object that has waited a century to be looked at again.
