TITLE Blue Delft Ceramic Charger — Sailing Ships, Boch Belgium circa 1950s
DESCRIPTION
The quiet drama of tall-masted ships on open water, rendered in deep cobalt on a creamy white ground — this octagonal Boch charger carries the timeless poetry of the Dutch maritime tradition, framed in a boldly scalloped border that commands any wall or surface it rests upon.
An ideal piece for interior designers seeking a statement decorative object with European heritage, or for film and TV prop buyers requiring period-accurate mid-century maritime or domestic Dutch styling.
A decorative ceramic charger by Boch Frères of La Louvière, Belgium, produced in the tradition of hand-painted Delft Blue. The octagonal form features a shaped, scalloped cobalt border surrounding a finely painted central scene of sailing vessels at rest on calm water, with a distant town visible on the horizon. The painting is executed in characteristic Delft Blue style — fluid, confident brushwork in graduating tones of cobalt blue on a white glazed ground. The reverse bears the original Boch manufacturer's stamp and the original "Blue Delft / Hand Painted Holland" paper sticker, intact.
Dimensions: W 32cm × H 26cm × D approx. 1.5cm (W 12.6" × H 10.2" × D 0.6")
Condition: In very good vintage condition, consistent with age and use. No chips, no cracks, no repairs, no restoration. Minor crazing to glaze may be present, in keeping with the natural character of fired ceramics of this age and not impacting the visual integrity of the piece. Original paper sticker and manufacturer's stamp on reverse are intact. Photographs form part of this description. Please review all images carefully as they document the piece's condition in full detail.
Curator's note: Selected for the confidence of its painted line and the timeless subject matter — maritime scenes in Delft Blue are among the most enduringly sought-after decorative ceramics, and this piece wears its tradition lightly. Equally at home as a wall piece, on a plate stand, or as set dressing in a period interior or film production.
